What exactly is Botox®?

What is the difference between Botox® & Dermal fillers?
Botox differs from dermal fillers because it treats the muscle, unlike fillers which use collagen to plump up the skin and therefore add volume.
Botox prevents wrinkles when the person’s face is at rest and even if the face is moving, whereas Dermal fillers work when the persons face is at rest but the lines reappear when the person smiles or frowns. Dermal fillers work best for the lower part of the face.
How Does Botox® Work?
Botox injections are a non-surgical procedure. The underlying causes of frown lines and crow’s feet are the repeated muscle contractions from frowning and squinting over the years. Botox works by temporarily reducing muscle activity. You will notice a visible smoothing of your skin and that youth look restored.

What can Botox® be used for?
Botox can be used for for wrinkles, fine lines, migraine, excessive sweating, nefertiti (lifting). For migraine headaches, as it appears to prevent pain signals from reaching the nerve endings. Against excessive sweating in the underarms, hands and feet by blocking the release of the chemical that stimulates the sweat glands.
How long will it take to get a result?
For most patients, some softening of lines can be seen within 2-4 days, with maximum benefit at 2 weeks. One Injection every 2-3 months should be enough. The full result can be seen 1 to 2 weeks after the initial procedure.
How long will it last?
Botox treatment last depends on the body's absorption, it can last 5-6 months.
Is it painful?
Not at all and it depends on patient pain tolerance but the needles used for Botox injections are very small, so pain if any is usually minimal.
